Expedition Medical Training

The Exeter Travel Clinic provide courses in remote medicine. These range from simple one day refreshers, introductions to expedition first aid, through to more advanced four-day courses aimed at those working in very remote or hostile environments.

They are a mixture of lecture and workshop based sessions, with outdoor practical scenarios. They will provide you with the skills and confidence to deal with health problems in a broad range of environments.

Courses cover a range of subjects including:

  • Assessment and diagnosis
  • Common medical conditions
  • Road traffic collision management
  • Casualty evacuation
  • Environmental medical conditions
  • Bites and stings
  • Triaging multiple casualties
  • Administering medications
  • Compiling suitable first-aid kits

Advanced courses include workshops including:

  • Intramuscular injections
  • Intravenous cannulation
  • Suturing

On successful completion of the course delegates will be able to purchase tailor-made advanced first-aid kits which include a selection of prescription only medications suitable for use in remote environments. Courses are designed to be recognised for National Governing Body awards such as Mountain Leader Training.
